What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient art believed to have originated in China over 5,000 years ago. It involves the insertion of fine steel needles into specific points in the body known as Acupuncture Points. These points are found on Meridians which are believed to be conduits of energy referred to as Qi (pronounced Chi). Insertion of the needle into the Acupuncture point and stimulation either by by manual means or by the modalities of electricity, laser etc. leads to a contact with the bodies energy. The stimulation of the point by needles or other modality creates an energetic input which via the meridians creates a profound physiological response in a related tissue or organ in the body, often at a distant site from where the needle was placed.

Acupuncture is gaining respect worldwide as the science of this treatment art is evolving. It is very safe in knowledgable hands with minimal risk involved. Dr. Bright and Kinetics Physiotherapists use Acupuncture mainly to treat pain conditions often recommending it as a first line therapy both in acute and chronic situations. Needling points usually hurts very little although some points may be sensitive and if they are they definitely need to be treated.

Dr. Bright and Kinetics Physiotherapists use only disposable needles.
